D. Ross Campbell, M.D.

BIO

Throughout his extensive career in clinical psychiatry, D. Ross Campbell, M.D., has counseled thousands of adults, adolescents and children and has spent more than thirty years exploring the parent-child relationship. Formerly an associate clinical professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Dr. Campbell is also the author of the million-copy bestseller HOW TO REALLY LOVE YOUR GRANDCHILD.

Prior to his training in psychiatry, Dr. Campbell directed a mission hospital in Bolivia on the base of Wycliffe Bible Translators. He earned a B. S. degree from the United States Naval Academy and his medical degree from the University of Florida. Before serving his residency at the University of Florida Shands Medical Center in Gainesville, he performed an internship at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in North Carolina. While there, he also received a fellowship in child psychiatry. Dr. Campbell is the founder of Southeastern Counseling Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and served as its director until retiring in 1996.

A noted author and lecturer on parent-child relationships, Dr. Campbell’s first book, HOW TO REALLY LOVE YOUR GRANDCHILD, published in 1977, has sold over one million copies and is in its 35th printing. Revised and updated in 2004, it continues to be an internationally acclaimed bestseller. His book HOW TO REALLY LOVE YOUR TEENAGER received the Gold Medallion Award. Other books written by Dr. Campbell include FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES OF CHILDREN with co-author Gary Chapman, PARENTING YOUR ADULT CHILD, HOW TO REALLY LOVE YOUR ANGRY CHILD, HOW TO REALLY PARENT YOUR CHILD, HOW TO REALLY PARENT YOUR TEAM and HELPING YOUR TWENTY-SOMETHING GET A LIFE --- AND GET IT NOW. Many of these books have been translated and published in other countries throughout the world.

His latest release, HOW TO REALLY LOVE YOUR GRANDCHILD, provides unique focus on helping grandparents give their grandchildren stability and direction in a world that is losing its moral values and decency. “Even though culture changes, people and their needs do not,” he says. “While the world may be an unfamiliar place, your grandchildren are the same wonderful young creations that God has always placed in our midst… They will still respond to grandparents who reach out to them with affection and acceptance.”

In addition to his writing, Dr. Campbell has lectured throughout the United States and in a number of European countries. He is currently a seminar leader and board member of Ministering to Ministers Foundation, an organization dedicated to the support of ministers, their families and church organizations. In 1997, the governor of Tennessee appointed Dr. Campbell to the Board of Trustees of Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute.

Born and raised in New Mexico, Dr. Campbell’s love of the outdoors and of the West keep him in touch with environmental issues. Also a licensed pilot, his numerous interests include flying, hiking, traveling and reading.

Dr. Campbell has four adult children and five grandchildren. He resides on Signal Mountain, Tennessee.
